Mridula Karthikeyan has always shown a keen interest in Bharatanatyam from a young age. At the age of nine, she started learning Bharatanatyam in the Kalakshetra style under the guidance of Dr. Francis Barboza. Over the years, Mridula has performed in numerous cultural events including the New Jersey Tamil Sangam, FETNA, Telugu Fine Arts Society, local area temples, and the Satyaradhana Institute of Performing Arts. She has also won several competitions she had attended in the following years from Diwali Mela and the India Fair.

Outside of dance, in high school, she was an active member of the John P Stevens Model United Nations team (JPSMUN) and has won awards from national competitions such as Most Improved from Rutgers University and Best Delegate from Georgetown University. Along with MUN, Mridula is also an avid distance runner; she was in the fall Cross Country, winter and spring track team for all four years of high school.
